About

Hello!

Welcome to A Life Shift. I’m Alison, a Canadian interior designer living and working in Hong Kong with my husband, three and a half year old son and new baby girl.

I will just acknowledge now that I called this section “About” as an intentional nod to my Canadian heritage. No, I don’t think I say it weird. Yes, everyone who’s not Canadian say otherwise.

Why “A Life Shift”?

shift
ʃɪft/
verb
  1. move or cause to move from one place to another

I started this blog in 2015 after we had accepted an opportunity to move from Vancouver to Hong Kong. Embracing a life of change and adventure as newlyweds felt exciting and challenging at the same time. Rather than feeling overwhelmed by all the changes, I thought of it all as a shift…just little moves from one place to another. Of course it was more than that; a new marriage, with new jobs, making new friends, in new house, on a new continent! It was an entire Life Shift, and it has resulted in big changes to basically every area of our life. In 2016 we added a baby boy to the mix, then a baby girl in 2020. That’s just made life all that much more interesting and exciting.
